One product review: Curlformers

Hi fairies,
Today we’re talking of hair care, a subject we all care about , don’t we? I’ve got natural curly hair and I’m lucky enough not to struggle with it, all my life I’ve always blow dry it with a diffuser or air dry it and it looks good without any effort ; I never used a straightener in all my life, yes it’s shocking but true! Around three years ago I saw a picture of a girl with the hair tool I’m going to talk about today , and I immediately wanted to know more about it! She named it and I googled it and found their online shop, and I purchased it! That’s how my adventure started, and after three years I still use it every time I wash my hair! The product I’m talking about is Curlformers; I’ve never heard of them before, but I was really impressed when I read how they worked and at the same time I was a bit skeptical. I watched demos and I eventually felt confident enough to try them out. There are many cheap replicas all over the net and in some shops as well, but I recommend you to try the original ones because there’s a huge difference in how they perform!

Let’s see how they’re described: The hair curling revolution started in the USA in 2008, when Hair Flair Ltd, in conjunction with Sally Beauty Supply, the world's largest retailer of professional beauty supplies, launched Curlformers, an innovative, patented and revolutionary hair styling accessory. Curlformers quickly became a retailing phenomenon, as women and girls of all ethnicities, discovered that Curlformers offered an easy and fun way to create gorgeous, glossy curls, without damaging their hair, because heat is not required other than to dry their hair! Curlformers can be used to create a variety of looks, from prom-perfect curls to the latest red-carpet textured styles. Available for short, medium and long hair and for various sizes of curl, they are suitable for all hair types and can be applied in the comfort of your own home where you can always ask mum or a friend to help.
Here you can see all their styling kits: http://www.curlformers.com/styling-kits.htm

What I like: I’ve got the long barrel curls kit, the first one I purchased, and then I also got long spiral curls and extra long spiral curls kit. I use the long barrel curls and extra long spiral curls kits mostly, because my hair is now too long for the long spiral one. You can find demo videos on their page, but I’ll tell you shortly how I put them on: my hair has to be damp and conditioned, I put argan oil on after washing it and I also put a bit of hair conditioning on my ends and I don’t rinse it away. I comb it through and once it’s all detangled I divided my hair in four section, two in the back and two in the front. After securing each section with a pin I start putting curlformers on. I usually place bigger ones in my front sections because I like my curls to be a bit looser there. I start from the back of my head and once you get the hang of it it’s really easy and fast and I do it all on my own: it takes about 15-20 minutes to put them all on.  I then take a curlformer and I push the hook through it; with the hook facing upwards, I take a small section of my hair and I place it into the hook and I slide it to the roots ; at this point I secure the curlformer at the root with my hand and I slide the hook out, and that’s it, it’s on! It’s easier said than done actually! Once they’re all on I look like this:
I leave them on for four to five hours but when I’m in a rush I blow dry my hair and I take them off after one hour, and here’s the result:
Basically you’ve got the same result of a curler but without using heat, which can damage your hair when used often. As I said I never used a straightener and I try not to damage my hair, that’s why I thought they would be perfect for me, and I was right! They take away the frizz and they define my curls beautifully, and after sleeping on my curls they still look good , not as defined as the day before but I love that that my hair doesn’t look puffy nor frizzy!

What I don’t like: it takes time to get a good result and we don’t always have four hours , that’s why I understand a heat curler is more practical and fast. I haven’t slept with them on even though I know some does that, but I think it would be uncomfortable to say the least! I still think they’re worth the time spent because they don’t damage your hair and you’ll get very nice, bouncy and defined curls, and they last quite long, even on straight hair they last for one day or two. I’ve bought my first kit around three years ago, and some of them got broken as you can see. I’m always careful not to pull them so I don’t know why it happened, all I can say is it happened mostly with the long barrel curls kit, half of it is broken basically and I’m thinking of buying a new one. They’re quite expensive but they last long and to me they’re worth the money.

My verdict: they’ve changed the way of styling my hair because I use them 90% of the time and I love how defined, bouncy and soft my hair looks,I’ve eventually found a way to get rid of frizziness! the only time I don’t use them is when it’s very hot and I wash my hair everyday but apart from that I couldn’t live without them!

Italian version:

Ciao fatine,
